The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warned the commuters and motorist on Tuesday that the closing ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) games will most likely cause heavy traffic on EDSA – December 11, 2019, Wednesday.
The 2019 SEA game closing ceremony will be held at the New Clark Athletics Stadium in New Clark City, Capas, Tarlac at 5 pm.
The MMDA advised the public to avoid using the yellow lanes and give way to the convoys. In a statement relaeased, “Convoys will use the yellow lane and inserts towards flyover, and tunnel/underpass while traveling along Edsa”. The MMDA said that at least 114 buses and other types of vehicles with SEA games delegates aboard will be using yellow lanes to travel from different hotels to New Clark Athletics Stadium in New Clark City after lunchtime on Wednesday.
MMDA has the traffic personnel positioned in key areas in the metropolis to guide the motorists and facilitate the movement of the convoy transporting the SEA games participants.
Celine Pialago, MMDA spokeperson stated that 2,000 of their personnel were deployed to assist in activities related to the SEA games, including the closing ceremonies.
The MMDA has the stop-and-go traffic scheme implemented along EDSA, Roxas Boulevard, Quezon Avenue and other main road in Metro Manila since November 30 when the SEA games officially started. “Kagaya po ng naging approach noong opening ng SEA games, ganon din po ‘yung magiging sistema for closing, stop-and-go scheme tayo para sa sasakyan ng mga pribadong at pambulikong motorista, pag dadaan po ‘yung mga convoy packages,” spokeperson Pialago told in an interview.
This allowed convoys of sports officials, of the athletes and other special guests to pass through the traffic.
